Oehrli Elementary School received a grant of $2,000 from Great Lakes Energy (GLE) for robotics programming training using Lego models. The project will be implemented by computer teacher Kristin Day-Hinken during the 2012-13 school year.

Great Lakes Energy awarded just over $16,000 in grants to 13 schools through its Touchstone Energy Classroom Grant program made possible by GLE’s association with Touchstone Energy and the cooperative’s commitment to local communities.

“Touchstone Energy cooperatives emphasize commitment to community, among other values practiced by electric co-ops,” explains Steve Boeckman, CEO of Great Lakes Energy. “These grants are just one way our co-op chooses to be directly and positively involved with the communities we serve.”

For a complete list of the school grant recipients for the 2012-13 school year, visit gtlakes.com/our-community/touchstone-energy-classroom-grants/. Schools in the GLE service area will have an opportunity to apply for the 2013-14 school year grants later this year.

Great Lakes Energy is a member-owned electric cooperative looking out for over 125,000 members in 26 counties throughout western Michigan.
