Local student wins national Super Bowl contest

Kammi Jarvis, a fifth grade student at Ealy Elementary in Whitehall, has won a trip for two to Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Jarvis received word on Monday, Dec. 17, that she had won the grand prize in the National Football League and United Dairy Council’s, Fuel Up to Play 60 Oatmeal Challenge.

Kammi’s winning entry, “Oatmealicious,” was chosen from over 600 national entries. “Encouraging our students to develop healthy eating habits is one of Mrs. (ReNae) Tindall’s passions as an educator,” said Mrs. Amy Burton-Major, Ealy Elementary principal.

“Fuel up to Play 60 is a student-lead program promoting healthy eating and physical activity,” shared Tindall. “I simply gave students a little bit of time and direction. Kammi was the one who spent a lot of time organizing her idea and worked between school and home to complete a fun and healthy way to serve oatmeal for breakfast in our school.”

Kammi’s big win not only comes with a $1,000 grant to Ealy Elementary to make her idea a reality, but also an all-expense paid trip for two to Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans, Louisiana. Her trip will also include running the football to the starting official to begin the game and choosing a player of her choice to spend a day with.

“I was very excited when I heard that I won,” Kammi said.

Ealy will be introducing Kammi’s big win soon after the check presentation to the school by Fuel up to Play 60. They are hoping to present “Oatmealicious” during National Oatmeal Month in January.
