Muskegon Area Intermediate School District (MAISD) Dave Sipka is responding to the evil and horror of the Newtown tragedy in an unlikely way—by urging others to honor the innocent victims through acts of kindness.
The MAISD website homepage http://www.viddler.com/v/788fa179 features Sipka’s two-minute video message titled “The World Changed.” Sipka begins by extending sympathies to the families of Sandy Hook School and the entire Newtown Community. He assures families in the Muskegon area that schools have prepared repeatedly for this type of event and will further extend their efforts.
Sipka points out that discussions about gun control, mental health, school safety, and the culture of violence conveyed through movies, television and especially video games are necessary to address incidents like this that have occurred throughout our nation.
The video ends with a reassurance to parents that schools are committed to providing loving and caring places; and an invitation to honor those who perished in Newtown by engaging in acts of kindness that will serve as a model for those we cherish most—our children.
