Book Nook event stage attracting musicians to Area

Build it and they will come. One of the features of the new Book Nook is an event stage, which along with the Best Cellars Wine Bar, restaurant and intimate setting creates an ideal venue for musicians.

The Book Nook has live music every Thursday through Saturday nights at 7 p.m. with a Classical Music Night the first Wednesday of the Month. Last month, local luminaries Max and Ruth Bloomquist played to a full house at a ticketed event. December’s line-up features out-of-town musicians from Muskegon, Grand Haven, Grand Rapids and two acts from California.

Dave Collee, leader of the Truth in Jazz Orchestra from Muskegon, a group of 16 professional musicians dedicated to big band era jazz will be organizing “Jazz Night” every Thursday in December featuring a different combination of performers each week.

Classical Music Night on Dec. 5 will showcase performance majors from Hope College. Featured on the Book Nook’s grand piano will be pianist James Schippers who won the Audience Favorite Award at the White Lake Chamber Music Festival solo competition. He will be joined by Jenna Buck, soprano and Nicholas VanderLaan, viola accompanied by Bryan Uecker, classical pianist and co-owner of the Book Nook.

“Genna and Jesse,” a duo from the San Francisco area, are on a nationwide coast-to-coast tour promoting their new release “Give and Take” and have made Montague one of the stops on their itinerary. Genna Giacobassi has roots in Michigan having grown up in Lansing and attending Interlochen Arts Academy High School. They will be performing Friday, Dec. 14.

Brett Dame, based in Corona, California is a member of the Young Americans, an educational organization that brings music workshops to 4th-12th grade students around the world through its International Music Outreach Tours.
