The Rockets are averaging over seven goals per game through four contests and are only allowing 1.5 goals a game.

Jeremy Joyce notched his second hat trick of the season for R-P in the victory, and he had some help from his friends too. Alex Dinger, Josh Smith, Cody Vanderstelt and Ryan Compeau each scored goals as well for the Rockets. Brenden Alderink added three assists to help the Rockets.

Aaron Andrews played goalie for the Rockets and stopped 28 of the 29 shots he faced.

Rockets rip Kenowa Hills

MUSKEGON — Reeths-Puffer’s hot start to the hockey season continued Wednesday night, as the Rockets exploded for eight goals in the final two periods of play to beat Kenowa Hills 8-2.

The score was 3-2 after two periods before R-P ripped off five unanswered goals in the final period to secure the win. The Rockets are now 3-0 on the season.

Seven different Rockets tallied goals in the game. Jeremy Joyce scored twice and notched an assist. Scoring one goal each for R-P were: Alex Lewandoski, Colt Shaffer, Alex Dinger, Josh Smith, Kyle Kendra and Curtis Pek.

Kendra led the Rockets in assists with two, tied with teammate Brandon Young. Dinger, Nate Cregg, Derreck Plemling, Jackson Woodruff and Ryan Compeau also had an assist each.

Jared Erickson played between the pipes for Reeths-Puffer and saved 12 of the 14 shots he faced to pick up the win.

R-P blasts Mattawan

KALAMAZOO — The Reeths-Puffer hockey team followed up an impressive opening win over West Ottawa last week with a victory Saturday that may have been even better.

The Rockets blistered Mattawan, 6-0, to move to 2-0 on the season. Mattawan came into the matchup sporting a 4-0 record.

“This may have been the best game R-P hockey has ever played,” Rockets’ coach Eric Sikkenga said.

Reeths-Puffer dominated the flow of the game, outshooting Mattawan 48-16. The Rockets spread the puck around, getting six goals from six different players.

Nate Cregg, Kyle Kendra and Alex Dinger each pocketed power-play goals for R-P, while Alex Lewendoski scored a shorthanded goal. Josh Smith and Jeremy Joyce each scored an even-strength goal.

“This game was a very impressive effort as a team with much more ballanced scoring and great special teams play,” Sikkenga said.

In net for the Rockets was Aaron Andrews, who notched his first shutout of the season.
