MUSKEGON — Whitehall’s Tell Sutton won a hard-fought championship at first singles at the Greater Muskegon Athletic Association tennis meet at Mona Shores last Saturday, edging Sam Kling of the host Sailors in a tiebreaker, 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (5). It was top seed Sutton’s third straight title at the GMAA meet, but his first at the highest level of singles play.
“Tell played an incredible match,” Whitehall coach Greg McManus said. “He out-gritted Sam.”
Sutton’s victory, as well as two other flights in which the Vikes reached the finals, helped Whitehall to a third-place finish as a team at the meet. Mona Shores dominated with six victories out of the eight flights. Muskegon Catholic Central won the second doubles flight.
Reeths-Puffer placed sixth at the GMAA meet.

Whitehall will compete at the regionals Thursday at Traverse City St. Francis.
