Take Back the Night at Heritage Landing

MUSKEGON - In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October, Every Woman’s Place/Webster House Youth Services will host a Walk and Rally.

On Wednesday, Oct. 3 - 5:30 - 7 p.m., “Take Back the Night March to Heritage Landing” will start with a march from the offices of Every Woman’s Place in downtown Muskegon, 175 W. Apple Avenue, and continue to Heritage Landing where the rally will take place.

The presentation at Heritage Landing will include a speech from Wendi English. English is a domestic violence survivor who has spent the last 12 years as a client advocate. She recently completed her Master of Arts in Counseling and is currently teaching at Baker College in Muskegon. As a co-author of the book “Wild Child, Waiting Mom,” English enjoys sharing her story and investing in the lives of others who are passionate about life.

The event will bring guests together to remember victims and honor survivors.

The Clothesline Project will be displayed at Heritage Landing. The project is a visual display that bears witness to the violence against women. During the public display, a clothesline is hung with shirts. Each shirt is decorated to represent a particular woman’s experience, by the survivor herself, or by someone who cares about her.

Throughout the month Every Woman’s Place will host Clothesline Project Workshops for those interested in creating a shirt to honor and/or remember victims of abuse. Shirts and decorative supplies are all provided. Guests are welcomed to bring items. Workshops are open to the public and will be held at 1221 W. Laketon location. Dates and Times are:

• Wednesday, Oct. 3, 10 am - Noon

• Thursday, Oct. 11, 1 p.m. - 3 p.m.

• Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
