The United Methodist Women from the Whitehall and Claybanks churches formed an assembly line Thursday afternoon to pack cookies in care packages to college students and military personnel affiliated with the churches. From left are: Pastor Gayle Berntsen,
Carol Weller, a summer resident who has attended Claybanks United Methodist Church, was listening to a Christian radio station a few years back and heard a statistic which stuck with her and launched her into action in a ministry to college students.
“They said a study indicated that when young people go off to college, those who were regular church attenders and were part of Sunday School and youth groups, they stop going to church,” Weller said.
