Blue Lake Township votes to opt out of Joint Planning Commission

After helping to establish the North Central Muskegon County Joint Planning Commission (JPC) in 2005, Blue Lake Township has decided to not participate in the group.

In 2005, five townships approached the West Michigan Shoreline Regional Development Commission (WMSRDC) asking for assistance in establishing a joint planning commission.

The JPC was officially formed by a resolution in 2006, and included the townships of Blue Lake, Dalton, Fruitland, Laketon and Muskegon. Each township has two representatives: one member of their board and one appointed official from their township’s planning commission.

Lyle Monette and Norm Swier were chosen to represent Blue Lake Township.

At the Blue Lake Township board meeting on Monday, Feb. 11, Monette gave his recommendation to the board that they not participate in the JPC because the topics they are discussing do not pertain to the township at this moment.
