“Tell the whole story. Tell the good and the bad,” Dave Dempsey, an environmental policy consultant and writer, told an audience last Tuesday night at the White Lake Community Library. Dempsey, who spoke on the value of reearching White Lake’s environmental history, added, “There’s plenty of things we need to be sorry about that happened on White Lake. We also have to remember that the same industries that we we now blame for the pollution and so much degredation were considered community friends at the time and created jobs and brought prosperity for a time.” Dempsey’s talk is a part of the libary’s year-long Environmental History project called “Restoring White Lake: Exploring White Lake’s Environmental History.” Sponsoring the project are the Michigan Humanities Council, Alcoa Howmet, White Lake Area Historical Society, Montague Museum and Historical Association, and Friends of the White Lake Community Library. |
