ACWL awards scholarships to area youth

In May and December of each year the Arts Council of White Lake considers requests to fund student scholarships and grants for educational and community events supporting the arts.

Along with free concerts, a gallery, public sculpture and a multitude of classes, these monetary gifts impact our community and support the mission of the ACWL to encourage, initiate, and facilitate an enriched artistic cultural and creative environment throughout the White Lake community. In Dec. 2012 a total of $950 was awarded to four deserving students.

The latest recipients are:

Scholarships:

• Jacy Harsch (Ealy Elementary) Dance Lessons $250.

• Sky Harsch (Whitehall Middle School) Drama @ BLFAC $250.

• Alayna Merten (NBC Middle School) Music @ BLFAC $200.

• Naomi Parker (Reeths-Puffer HS) Music Lessons $250.

State grants, when awarded, account for a portion of the funds used for this purpose, but the council must rely heavily on membership fees and patron level donations to support these grants.

Visit www.artscouncilofwhitelake.org for general information regarding grants and scholarships as well as membership information. Grant applications may also be obtained at the Arts Council office at 8695 Ferry Street, Suite 1, Montague. Deadlines for applications are May 1, 2013 and Dec. 1, 2013.
