WHITEHALL — The Whitehall Vikings swept their two matches Wednesday night at their home jamboree, remaining unbeaten in WMC dual meets.
The Vikings defeated Ravenna and Mason County Central, and have now swept all 10 matches so far in WMC action.
Montague went 0-2 at the Whitehall jamboree, falling 65-18 to Mason County Central and 54-24 to Shelby.
Gabe Flood at 130 pounds and Sawyer Smith at 152 each went 2-0 in their individual matches for the Wildcats.
Rockets overpower Zeeland East
MUSKEGON — The Reeths-Puffer Rockets downed Zeeland East 58-24 Wednesday night in an O-K Black Conference dual meet.
The Rockets won all but three individual matches which were contested. Zeeland East also picked up a pair of victories by forfeit in the matches.
Recording wins for R-P were: C.J. Colbert at 103 pounds, Andrew Emmons at 112, Tyler Stenberg at 140, Jon Woodring at 145, Sean McWilliams at 160, David Gordon at 171, Tyler Beckman at 189, Buck Tottingham at 215 and Steven Hanson at heavyweight. All the R-P grapplers that did wrestle won by pin, with Woodring and Gordon recording victories by forfeit. The fastest pin among the group was in 1:20, by Tottingham against Chix opponent Kieran Poel.
R-P 5th at Fruitport Invite
FRUITPORT — The Reeths-Puffer Rockets faced a tough field at last Saturday’s Fruitport Invitational, but managed to place fifth out of the nine teams participating, with a score of 104.5.
Hamilton won the invitational with a score of 189.
R-P had several wrestlers place in the top five at the meet, led by Tyler Stenberg, who took the title at 140 pounds. Jon Woodring placed second at 145, while Buck Tottingham was third at 215 and Steven Hanson was third at heavyweight.
Placing fourth for the Rockets were Sean McWilliams at 189, Tyler Beckman at 171 and J.J. Covington at 125.
Montague 14th at Dunneback Invite
GRAND RAPIDS — Montague battled with 19 other teams at last Saturday’s Dunneback Invitational at West Catholic High School, ultimately placing 14th in a loaded field with a score of 54.5.
Forest Hills Central won the meet with a score of 208.5.
Alex VanVleet was the best-placing Wildcat at the meet, as he took first place at 152 pounds to lead Montague. Sawyer Smith was second at 145.
“Alex had an outstanding performance, pinning two opponents and (winning by) technical fall on the other opponent,” Montague coach Chris Pineda said. “As a team we battled all day. We still have a young and inexperienced squad that is getting better match by match.”
