  Whitehall 2-0, Montague 1-1 at WMC meet

RAVENNA — The Whitehall Vikings rolled through their competition again at Wednesday’s West Michigan Conference meet at Ravenna, defeating Hart 55-10 and blanking Ravenna 76-0.

All but three of Whitehall’s wrestlers were 2-0 on the day, including: Corey Robinson at 103 pounds, Reiley Brown at 112, Logan Irey at 119, Casey Robinson at 125, Zack Cooper at 130, Alex Whitener at 135, Zack Harris at 140, Dakota Hoffman at 145, Steven Sika at 171, Joe Sika at 189 and Logan Morningstar at heavyweight.

Montague, meanwhile, split its two matches, defeating Ravenna 37-30 and falling to Mason County Central 70-12.

A pair of Wildcats went 2-0 on the day: Sawyer Smith at 152 and Alex VanVleet at 160.

Kenowa Hills

GRAND RAPIDS — Reeths-Puffer lost to Kenowa Hills Wednesday night in a tight road match. It was the Rockets’ first dual meet of the season.

Reeths-Puffer had several wrestlers post victories at the match, including Paul Douglas at 135 pounds, Tyler Sternberg at 145, Jon Woodring at 152, Tyler Beckman at 171, Sean McWilliams at 189, Buck Tottingham at 215 and Steven Hanson at heavyweight.

Of the Rockets’ victors, Tottingham and Hanson won by pin, Beckman won by technical fall, and the remainder won by forfeit or decision.

Montague 7th at

Orchard View

MUSKEGON — The Montague Wildcats wrestled well Saturday morning, placing 7th at the 13-team Orchard View Invitational with a score of 77.5.

Niles dominated the meet, posting a score of 255 for the win.

The Wildcats placed three wrestlers in the top three for the day, led by Sawyer Smith, who was second at 145 pounds. Alex VanVleet at 152 and Cameron Brayman at 160 both placed third for Montague.

“We were pleased with the overall performance of the team and our team placement,” Montague coach Chris Pineda said.

Whitehall 4th at

New Lothrop

NEW LOTHROP — Facing a tough field, the Whitehall Vikings wrestled their way to a fourth-place finish Saturday at the New Lothrop Invitational, with a score of 129.5.

St. John’s scored 262.5 points and ran away with the meet.

The Vikings placed several grapplers in the top three, led by Joe Sika, who earned top honors at 171 pounds, and Logan Morningstar.

Also placing for the Vikings were Logan Irey, second at 112, and Reiley Brown, 3rd at 103.

R-P 9th at

Allendale Invite

ALLENDALE — The Reeths-Puffer Rockets placed ninth at Saturday’s Allendale Invitational.

R-P had four wrestlers place in the top five, led by J.J. Covington, who took first place at 130 pounds. Tyler Sternberg was second at 140.

Other Rocket placers included Steven Hanson, who was fourth at heavyweight, and Jon Woodring, who was fifth at 145.
