Fishing Report

Rain/cold or warm/wind, your choice, either way it is mostly not conducive to good angling. Very few boats heading out on the big lake and the action has turned to the steelhead and whitefish that have begun to show up off the piers, and earlier rains should push some chrome fish up into the rivers. There ought to be a good late fall walleye bite starting somewhere. Let me know if you find it.

White Lake – Steelhead have been reported in the river but numbers had been low at mid-week. For the latest info on White Lake call Johnson’s Great Outdoors at 231-893-6688.

Whitehall/Montague - Anglers still fishing with spawn have caught steelhead off the pier but the bite was slow. A few whitefish were also caught.

Muskegon - Anglers are steelhead fishing off the south pier. However, no fish were caught. One boat out trolling in 40 to 100 feet of water caught one steelhead on a gold and orange spoon.

Muskegon River - Some steelhead and the occasional salmon have been caught below Croton Dam. Small spoons, crankbaits or spinners have been effective.

Grand Haven - Is producing a couple steelhead and menominee whitefish off both piers. Still-fishing with spawn is the key. For whitefish try a single egg or spikes on a small hook. Catch rates were hit-or-miss.

Pentwater – Pier anglers still-fishing with spawn are targeting steelhead. However, catch rates were very slow. Those surfcasting with spawn seem to be doing better.

Hamlin Lake – No reports. For up to date Hamlin information call Hamlin Grocery at 231-843-2058.

Ludington – Pier and surf anglers are catching steelhead when using salmon spawn.

Pere Marquette River - Rain did push steelhead up into the river. Most fish were caught on spawn. Those looking for salmon will still find a few fish however they are almost done spawning so they are not hitting anything.
