Oceana County Day of Caring is Oct. 6

OCEANA COUNTY – Day of Caring, an annual event which brings volunteers together in projects benefiting Oceana County, will take place on Saturday, Oct. 6.

United Way volunteers will help reorganize and paint the Bread of Life pantry and the future Outreach Services Center. The morning’s projects will also include sprucing up the exterior of the building and cleaning and painting as many rooms as possible so the building can provide space for other area outreach services. The project is located at 11 Washington in Hart.

“Day of Caring gives us the opportunity to work united with community members on projects that will positively affect our Oceana County communities,” said Kevin Lucht, Oceana County campaign chairperson and general manager of Rothbury Steel. “This annual event really allows community members the opportunity to take a vested interest in our community and also provides area students with the opportunity to give back.”

Volunteers for this event are needed from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The day will begin at 8:30 a.m. with registration and a continental breakfast compliments of Gale’s IGA, Hansen Foods, Cenzo’s and Frontier Communications..

“Traditionally 35-40 volunteers have participated in Oceana County’s Day of Caring,” said Laura Nugent, United Way of the Lakeshore’s Oceana County director, “but this year we have a goal of recruiting 75 volunteers that are needed to help Love INC successfully complete this large project. Their goal is to utilize the facility that hosts the Bread of Life food pantry as an outreach center for local non-profit agencies to more efficiently serve our Oceana County communities. United Way is very excited to help make this happen.”

Registration deadline for Oceana County Day of Caring is Tuesday, Oct., 2. For more information, or to receive a volunteer registration form contact Laura Nugent at 231-907-0515 or Lynn Keech at 877-722-3134, fax: 231-722-3137 or lynn@unitedwaylakeshore.org
