  Wildcats on winning streak
 
MUSKEGON – Montague stayed within a game of second place in the West Michigan Conference with one league game to go with a 60-48 win over Muskegon Oakridge Tuesday night.

The win improved Montague’s record to 9-4 overall and 12-5 overall. Oakridge fell to 7-5 and 9-7.

The Wildcats’ junior duo of Brandon Moore and Chase Casebolt again led scoring with 19 and 16 points, respectively. And, they got help from another junior, Brandon Stine with 10.

The Wildcats started strong, doubling up on the Eagles’ 7 first-quarter points. Oakridge came back to within one at the half, 25-24. Montague’s lead remained at one going into the final quarter, 31-30, but the winners blew the game open in the final eight minutes.

Moore and Casebolt each grabbed 10 rebounds, and, along with Jim Boerema, made it difficult for Oakridge to get a shot off. The trio each had three blocks. Stine, at point guard, had five assists on the night.

GRAND RAPIDS – A bad second quarter doomed the Rockets to their 14th loss in 15 games this season on Tuesday night.

The host Northview Wildcats held the Rockets to just 2 points in the second quarter while putting up 15 on the board to take a 32-17 lead into halftime. The Rockets shaved the lead to 13 going into the fourth quarter, but were outscored in the final eight minutes 25-6.

Reeths-Puffer had one player score in double figures. Jalen Benton scored 13, including two threes from beyond the arc. Quinzell Pannell added 7 points.

Northview was led in scoring by Kevin Rich with 17, and Ryan Ruschmann and Tanner Siotsema with 14 each.

RAVENNA – Bobbie Johnson, Isaac Love and Matthew Ferguson combined for 45 points to lead the Vikings to a 72-57 West Michigan Conference victory over Ravenna Tuesday night.

The win evened Whitehall’s record to 9-8. The Vikings are 6-7 in the WMC. Ravenna fell to 1-15 and 1-11.

The host Bulldogs took the early lead, 21-15, after one quarter. Whitehall came back to trail by just one at the half, 33-32. In the fourth quarter, the Vikings took over 24-14.

“We hope to have a better showing early,” Whitehall Coach Nate Aardema said. “We were only up by five going into the fourth.”

Aardema said Johnson “kept us afloat” in the first half by scoring 14 of his 20 points. The coach said Ferguson gave the team a “good bit of energy” in the third quarter by scoring 8 of his 11 points.

Love scored 14 points.

As a team, Whitehall hit 45% of its 65 shots from the floor. The Vikings hit 4-9 from three-point range.

Johnson also contributed with 10 rebounds. Brandon De La Rosa had 5 assists, while Kalup Bentz came up big on defense with five steals.

Joe Side scored 14 points, including four three-pointers, to lead Ravenna in scoring. Connor Chopp scored 11 and Colton Kantola added 10.
