If you think you live in a safe small town and you don’t have to lock your vehicles, think again.
Since December, Montague Chief Robert Rought said his department has received about 15 reports of larcenies from parked vehicles.
They all were unlocked.
The good news is Rought said much of the slolen merchandise has been recovered by police and six juveniles are suspects and the case continues under investigation.
“Some of the juveniles are confessing to larcenies we don’t even know about,” Rought said.
The stolen items, according to Rought, have consisted of small merchandise, including global position unit, change, sunglasses, cigarettes, chewing tobacco, compact disks, flashlights, prescription pills and an iPod.
Rought said that if any Montague resident notices something recently missing from his or her vehicle the police may have it.
“There probably have been larcenies from vehicle which haven’t been reported,” he said.
Four larcenies from vehicles were reported on Jan. 22. They occurred in the 5100 block of Lakeview St., the 4800 block of Grace St., the 7900 block of Hill St. and the 4800 block of Mill St.
Two more larcenies from vehicles were reported on Jan. 20. They occurred in the 7900 block of Hill St. and 5100 block of Osmun St.
