The Relay for Life of White Lake kicked off Thursday evening at the Algot Johnson American Legion Post in Whitehall. Pat Collins, Montague High School teacher and football coach was one of the guest speakers. Collins told a story about reviving the Denny Irey Homecoming MVP award at Montague in 2010 after he found the trophy in the school’s trophy case and heard of Irey’s story of playing a big role in Montague’s homecoming win his junior year, then soon after being diagnosed with cancer. Above, relay teams had tables decorated with this year’s relay theme, “Celebrating More Holidays.” Committee member Bob Stevens talked about his role as a cancer caregiver. The relay fundraising and educational event will be May 19-20. To sign up as a team or individual, go online to www.acsevents.org and search relay for life locations.
