The Howmet Playhouse will become a coffeehouse
for one night for Youth Theater fundraising concert
The Howmet Playhouse will host local young performers again on Friday, February 10 for its second annual Acoustic Café Night. Musicians Katie Beaman, Andrea Mathews, and Bret Balcom will perform acoustic music on guitar and piano for an evening to raise funds for the White Lake Youth Theatre Education Program (WLYT) at the Playhouse. Last year this event raised over $400 to support the WLYT Summer Theatre Workshop, which featured 50 students in a production of Alice in Wonderland.
Katie Beaman, a Whitehall High School senior, is a regular performer at the Playhouse. She has opened for Ruth and Max Bloomquist and will open for The Crane Wives, the popular indie-folk band from Grand Rapids on May 4 at the Playhouse. Andrea Mathews, well-known as a local actress, also is a musician and plays local clubs and bars. Newcomer singer-songwriter Bret Balcom is a junior at Oakridge High School and will perform original music during the show.
