ROTHBURY — Tuesday night the Rothbury Village Council was privy to an eye-opening presentation by Sgt. Doug Roesler of the Michigan State Police regarding speed limits within the village.
According to Roesler’s data, village speed limits are not consistent with the speeds drivers travel on village roads, making enforcement difficult and actually giving some drivers and residents a false sense of security.
Thus, contrary to what you might think, said Roesler, many village speed limits need to raised.
“Actually,” said Roesler — who performed a speed survey in the village in November at the request of council president Scott Beishuizen — “the public tells us what speeds are appropriate.”
