Wildcat grapplers lose close match to Spartans

RAVENNA – In a West Michigan Conference wrestling quad Wednesday night, Montague lost a close match to Mason County Central 35-34, and were overwhelmed by league-leading Shelby 66-12.

Against MCC, Montague got wins from Chen Martinez (285), Brandon Pineda (215), Sawyer Smith (152), Eric Groppi (125), Hank Martin (112) and Gabe Flood (130) won by forfeits. Montague was handicapped, forfeiting four matches because the Wildcats didn’t have a wrestler at the weight.

Against Shelby, Montague got wins from Chen Martinez (285) by pin :56 and a forfeit to Brandon Pineda (215).
