Stanley E. Gale, age 85, of Montague, passed away Monday, January 18, 2010 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Battle Creek, Michigan. He was born December 28, 1924 in Muskegon to Augusta R. Gale and Hilda M. Lederde Gale.
Stanley lived in Muskegon and Muskegon Heights before moving to Montague at the age of fourteen. He was a World War II Army veteran and was wounded while serving, earning the Purple Heart.
Despite his injuries, he strived to live as normal a life as possible. Stanley married Joan R. Dexter on April 21, 1951. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed planting rose bushes. He was a life member of the White Lake VFW Post #3256, Chapter 11 of the Muskegon Disabled Veterans and the Purple Heart Society.
Stanley is survived by his wife, Joan; his children, Vicki (Edward) Jankowski of Whitwell, Tennessee, Terry (Timothy) Puls of Disputanta, Virginia and Brian Gale of Montague; grandchildren, Aaron Hellmuth and Matthew Hellmuth of Whitwell, Tennessee; brothers, Lincoln Gale of Muskegon, Robert Gale of Whitehall, Carl (Dottie) Gale of Hart and Everett "Butch" (Kelly) Gale of Mears; and sisters, Virginia Lynn of Muskegon, Sally (Lynn) Felt of New Era, Carol (James) Johnston of Mountain Home, Arkansas, and Lois Kinstner of Holton. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Gerald, Truman and Marvin Gale, and two half-sisters and a half-brother.
The funeral service for Mr. Gale was held Friday, January 22, 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, west of New Era, with Pastor Thomas Montgomery officiating.
