Many area lakes report safe ice, better than seen for a couple years. Panfish are reported as excellent to very good in many areas, some of the best action in many years according to a few veterans who are willing to talk (see guys, I kept my promise not to reveal your names). The Dam to Dam tourney takes place this weekend on Hardy and reports from there have been good for perch. Contact your favorite local bait and tackle dealer for the very latest information.
White Lake – Indian Bay and the post office continue to produce good numbers of perch on minnows and wigglers. Lyon’s Den is going very strong, with fast action that includes quite a few smaller fish but for those that hang in there some very nice size bluegills are ending up in the bucket. Waxies and spikes best here. For the latest info on White Lake call Johnson’s Great Outdoors at 231-893-6688.
Muskegon - Snug Harbor had safe ice and anglers were taking some nice bluegills with spikes being the best bet. 2nd St area has reportedly three inches of white ice, but remains a questionable choice. Don’t go alone. Call Snug Harbor Outfitters at 231-719-0759 for the latest information.
Muskegon River - Water levels remain high, but some steelhead should be available.
Hamlin Lake – Bluegills remain fair to good with late afternoon best. Some nice crappies and a few big perch are being taken in the evenings. For up to date Hamlin information call Hamlin Grocery at 231-843-2058.
Pere Marquette Lake - Northern pike on tip ups remain the primary target for anglers.
Portage Lake - In Manistee County was producing yellow perch in the mornings, crappies, walleyes and whitefish evenings.
