Electric Forest officially announces 2013 festival

ROTHBURY – Fans of EDM (Electronic Dance Music) and the jam band scene across the country visiting the Electric Forest Festival website, electricforestfestival.com Friday, Jan. 11, were greeted with a four minute video recap of the 2012 festival, featuring the Bassnectar song Empathy, followed by an official announcement of the 2013 festival dates, June 27-30 and the message “see you in the forest!”

Tickets for the Electric Forest Festival went on sale Friday, Jan. 18, to those who had purchased a ticket to last year’s festival with a credit card. Those people received an email with a private code to purchase up to two weekend passes at the loyalty price of $199 for general admission. Early bird tickets, which went on sale Saturday, are $209; Electric entry tickets are $229; and regular weekend tickets are $259.50. A ticket fee of $21.25–$22.75 is added to the ticket price. Payment plans are available and tickets will be shipped in May and throughout June.

This year the Sherwood Forest will be expanded in size for the first time. More details on the Sherwood Forest will be released soon.

Despite the announcement by festival promoters Madison House Presents and Insomniac, Grant Township has yet to approve the festival’s mass gathering permit application submitted Dec. 6.

The township has scheduled a public hearing to receive input regarding the festival’s application for a mass gathering permit. The hearing will take place at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, at the Grant Township Hall.

While there has yet to be any official word as to the size of this year’s festival, an Outdoor Mass Gathering Permit and a public hearing are required by the township for all events that exceed 10,000 people.

The application for the music and arts festival does not indicate the number of people expected or which bands might perform.

According to township Clerk Bill Wagner, public comments will be received at the time of the hearing and written comments may be sent to the board prior to the hearing at 7140 S. Oceana Dr., Rothbury, MI 49452.
