MUSKEGON — The Reeths-Puffer Rockets wasted no time imposing their will on the Zeeland West Dux at Friday’s girls basketball game.

R-P shut out the Dux through the first quarter, setting the tone defensively and using the momentum to ease to a 45-27 win in nonconference play.

Montague routed

at Oakridge

MUSKEGON — Oakridge played stifling defense that Montague found difficult to deal with during Thursday night’s 68-27 West Michigan Conference loss.

The Wildcats (1-7, 1-4 WMC) were unable to sustain much offense, as Oakridge forced them out of their comfort zone with pressure defense. Not helping the Montague cause was early foul trouble, including to Nicole Rumsey, one of the Wildcats’ best post players.

Montague falls

to Hart

MONTAGUE — Montague fell behind early and couldn’t recover, dropping a West Michigan Conference game to Hart, 52-33, Tuesday night.

The Wildcats trailed 20-10 after a quarter and 28-14 at halftime, and the Pirates put the game away from there.

RAVENNA — The Whitehall Vikings picked up their first win of the season Thursday night, notching a 52-38 road victory over Ravenna in West Michigan Conference play.

The Vikings (1-8, 1-4 WMC) were led by their post players, as Brandi Balzer posted a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Emily MacArthur added 14 points and eight boards.

Whitehall bounced

by Fremont

FREMONT — The Whitehall Vikings fell to 0-8 Monday night with a 43-31 loss to Fremont on the road.

A slow start cost the Vikings, as they trailed 25-12 at the halftime break. Whitehall outscored Fremont 13-7 in the fourth quarter, but by then the damage had been done.
