MUSKEGON — The Reeths-Puffer Rockets wasted no time imposing their will on the Zeeland West Dux at Friday’s girls basketball game.

R-P shut out the Dux through the first quarter, setting the tone defensively and using the momentum to ease to a 45-27 win in nonconference play.

Kalisa Williams led the way offensively for the Rockets (7-2) with her penetrating abilities, scoring 16 points. Taylor Seidell added 10, including the game’s only three-pointer. Grace Swanson and Camaryia Williams each scored six points.

The Rockets also dominated the glass, outrebounding the Dux by four, and forced 21 turnovers that set them up for more easy buckets.

The win was the Rockets’ fourth in a row, but their first since Dec. 21. There was some apparent rust on both squads in the early going offensively, but R-P bounced back from it quicker to set itself up for the easy win.

Montague routed

at Oakridge

MUSKEGON — Oakridge played stifling defense that Montague found difficult to deal with during Thursday night’s 68-27 West Michigan Conference loss.

The Wildcats (1-7, 1-4 WMC) were unable to sustain much offense, as Oakridge forced them out of their comfort zone with pressure defense. Not helping the Montague cause was early foul trouble, including to Nicole Rumsey, one of the Wildcats’ best post players.

Montague was able to keep things reasonably close in the second and third quarters, but Oakridge overwhelmed the Wildcats in the first and final frames. The Eagles made several three-pointers in the fourth, expanding the final margin.

Montague plays two WMC home games this week, hosting Mason County Central and rival Whitehall.
