Applications available for Oceana County Foundation Scholarship Program

The Community Foundation for Oceana County Foundation Scholarship Program online applications are now available for the 2013/2014 school year.

Applications can be submitted electronically at the foundation website (www.oceana-foundation.org) and the submission deadline is March 1, 2013. The foundation does not make awards solely on the basis of need. Academic achievement, community involvement, extra curricular activity history and financial need are all taken into consideration. All Foundation scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis.

The foundation has 27 scholarship funds and over $4.0 million in scholarship endowments – representing our largest charitable program. Two additional scholarships were recently established – the Walkerville Scholarship Fund and the Gerald L Malburg Scholarship Fund. “Our founding donor, Julia Hager, created our first scholarship fund, which has awarded over $358,000 since 1998. We know that the donors and scholarship committees will be making the best investment of all – in Oceana County’s future leaders,” said Foundation Chair Eric Fox.

Both graduating high school seniors and current college students and invited to apply. In 2012, 130 Oceana County students received scholarships for a total of $114,500. The full list of 2012 recipients can be viewed in the website scholarship section.

Specific questions on the scholarship program can be directed to Executive Director, Tammy Carey at 231-861-8335 or to a high school counselor.
