Montague Police

Jan. 1

• Damage to mailbox was reported at 2:26 p.m. in the 4900 block of Strong St. The mailbox, valued at $50, was hit by a vehicle.

• A drive-off without paying for gas was reported at Wesco, 8973 Water St., at 2:16 p.m. The motorist pumped $42.89 in fuel before driving away without paying.

• An assault reported at 2:26 a.m. in the 8800 block of Ferry St. is being investigated. A 22-year-old Montague man struck a 29-year-old Dalton Twp. man to start an altercation. Both men had been drinking, police reported.

Dec. 30

• A car-deer crash was reported at 3:30 a.m. near the intersection at Walsh and Water streets. The vehicle, driven by a 60-year-old Montague man, was southbound on Water St., south of Walsh Rd., when it struck the deer. The vehicle suffered minor damage and a permit was given to the driver to take the deer.

Dec. 27

• A vehicle was stopped at 11 p.m. in the 4700 block of Williams St. The driver, a 43-year-old Montague man, was arrested for second offence driving while license suspended. He was lodged in the Muskegon County Jail.

Jan. 3

• A Rothbury woman was arrested on a Whitehall Police warrant for Possession of Marihuana. An officer on patrol located the 20-year-old in the 200 block of Market St. at 2:35 a.m. and she was taken into custody and later lodged in the Muskegon County Jail. The arrest stemmed from an incident on Mears Ave. on Oct. 6, 2012. Also in connection with the October incident a 20-year-old Whitehall man was taken into custody on Jan. 1 at 7:09 p.m. in the 100 block of Johanna St. He also was arrested on a Whitehall warrant for Possession of Marihuana and lodged in the county jail.

• An officer on patrol at 12:26 a.m. made a routine check of a license plate and discovered that the driver had a suspended license. A traffic stop was made in the 100 block of N. Thompson St. and the driver, a 51-year-old Montague Township resident, was cited and released when a licensed driver was found to pick her up.

Jan. 2

• A 79-year-old Whitehall resident was uninjured after his vehicle struck the curb, a fire hydrant and tree on Mears Ave. near Spring St. Police responded to the 5:40 p.m. call and had the man checked for a possible medical condition by White Lake Ambulance. There were no citations issued for the one car crash.

• A crash on White Lake Drive at Warner St. at 2:50 p.m. resulted in a citation for a 38-year-old Twin Lake resident. A semi-truck driven by a 36-year-old Coopersville man was turning right onto northbound Warner St. when a car following the truck, driven by the Twin Lake man, also attempted to turn right. There were no injuries following the collision.

• Whitehall Police were called to the 1000 block of E. Colby St. to investigate an assault after the 36-year-old victim entered a business there. The victim reported that he was assaulted in the 100 block of Spring St. after an argument with an acquaintance there. The 3:11 a.m. incident remains under investigation.

Jan. 1

• Whitehall Police are investigating an assault report after first responding to a crash involving a vehicle and a house. The victim, a 20-year-old Whitehall Township resident, said he was assaulted by two men after dropping off a passenger near the intersection of Spring St. and Livingston St. The crash reportedly occurred as the victim was attempting to escape the assault. The investigation into the 6:30 a.m. incident is ongoing.

• A 28-year-old Dalton Township woman was arrested for operating a vehicle while impaired following a 1:02 a.m. crash in the 300 block of Elizabeth St. The driver struck a car parked in the area and initially left the scene but had returned when police arrived. After the investigation, including sobriety tests, the driver was arrested and taken to the Muskegon County Jail and lodged. She did submit to a breath test at the jail which showed a .15% BAC result.

Dec. 30

• Whitehall officers investigating a car parked near the City Marina arrested the driver on an outstanding warrant and later discovered marihuana concealed on her person. Officers on patrol observed the car at 7:14 p.m. and checked the 20-year-old Muskegon woman and her passenger in the computer, finding she was wanted by Muskegon Township for a drug offense. After she was taken to the Muskegon County Jail for lodging a female corrections officer recovered a quantity of marihuana from the suspect’s shirt.

Dec. 28

• A car was stolen from the 100 block of W. Spring St and recovered nearby a few hours later. The victim reported that she had left her keys in the car which was taken from the driveway. When the car was discovered on 1st St., about two blocks away, there were some items taken from the car, including cash and gift cards. Whitehall Police are following leads in the ongoing investigation of the case.

• At 5:57 p.m., a car-deer accident occurred on N. Old Channel Trail at Beechwood Drive, White River Twp. The driver was Charles Frederick Behler.

Jan. 1

• A 22-year-old man was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated at 3:58 p.m. following an accident on northbound US-31 at W. Riley-Thompson, Dalton Twp.

• A 20-year-old man was arrested for operating at motor vehicle while intoxicated at 4:33 a.m. at 6199 Schow Rd., Cedar Creek Twp.

• A 40-year-old woman reported she was a victim of intimidation/stalking at 10:05 p.m. at 7136 Progress Drive, Blue Lake Twp.

Dec. 31

• Mile Automotive, 11481 N. Maple Island Rd., Holton Twp., reported it was a victim of fraud, bad checks on Dec. 1.

• A disorderly person was reported at 11:53 p.m. at 3084 Worden Rd., Fruitland Twp.

• At 11:39 a.m., an accident occurred on Dalson Rd. at S. Riverwood Drive, Dalton Twp. The driver was David Mitchell Lockhart.

• At 8:31 p.m., an accident occurred on Holton Rd. at E. Riley Thompson Rd., Dalton Twp. The drivers were Debra Regina Farnsworth and Nicholas Alan Pletcher.

• At 8:52 p.m., an accident occurred on Weber Rd. at River Rd., Fruitland Twp. The driver was Amanda Faye Perez.

• At 8:45 p.m., an accident occurred on Lamos Rd. at Hancock Rd., White River Twp. The drivers were Larry J. Herder and Nicholas William Carte.

Dec. 30

• At 8:40 a.m., an accident occurred on W. Fruitvale Rd. at Lamos Rd., White River Twp. The driver was Anthony William Visger.

Smith

A girl, Gabbryella Francis Smith, was born to Bonnie Ingersoll and Randy Smith, Jr. of Montague on December 22, 2012 at The Birth Center of Mercy Health Partners-Hackley Campus in Muskegon.

The baby weighed 5 lbs. and 14 oz at birth. Her grandparents are Patricia Joslin of North Muskegon and Jerry and Janice Schiller of Montague. The mother is the former Bonnie Schiller.

Lake Levels

The water level of Lake Superior is near its level of one year ago, while Lake Michigan-Huron is 17 inches lower than its level of last year. Lakes St. Clair, Erie, and Ontario are 22, 24, and 14 inches, respectively, lower than their levels of a year ago.

Over the next month, Lake Superior is forecasted to drop 3 inches from its current level while Lake Michigan-Huron is expected to fall 2 inches. The water level of Lake St. Clair is expected to remain at its current level, while Lake Erie is expected to decline 1 inch. Lake Ontario is predicted to rise 1 inch over the next 30 days.

Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Ashley N. Port has graduated from the U.S. Navy’s Nuclear Power School at Naval Nuclear Power Training Command in Goose Creek, S.C.

Nuclear Power School is a rigorous six-month course that trains officer and enlisted students in the science and engineering fundamental to the design, operation, and maintenance of naval nuclear propulsion plants.

Graduates next undergo additional instruction at a prototype training unit before serving as a Surface Warfare Officer aboard a nuclear-powered surface ship or as an Electronics Technician aboard a nuclear-powered submarine.

Port is the daughter of Diandra Reschke of Sandalwood Drive, and Vincent Port of Lake Harbor Road, both of Muskegon.

She is a 2009 graduate of Reeths-Puffer High School.
