Rockets, Vikes open seasons

MUSKEGON — Reeths-Puffer came in 6th place while Whitehall was 11th at Wednesday’s Sailor Invitational. The Rockets’ score was 615.18, while Whitehall posted a score of 473.24.

The Rockets faced a couple of O-K Black opponents at the meet, with Mona Shores edging out R-P for fifth place, while Muskegon was eighth.

Whitehall’s placement was fourth in their division and was a sign of good things to come according to coach Dorianne Kittridge.

“December competitions are to help us critique and perfect routines prior to January,” Kittridge said. “At the end of our first year of competitive cheer last year, our highest score was 522. We are excited for the season and look forward to raising our score.”

Reeths-Puffer 15th

COMSTOCK PARK — The Reeths-Puffer Rockets placed 15th at the 20-team CCCAM Scholarship Invitational at Comstock Park Saturday morning. The Rockets’ score was 625.94, edging out Byron Center for the 15th spot.

East Kentwood won the meet with a score of 758.2. Other O-K Black schools who competed included Mona Shores, which placed 11th, and Zeeland East, who was 20th.
