Barbara Ruth Wise, R.N.
 
Barbara Ruth Wise, R.N., age 91, of Whitehall, went Home to be with her Lord December 9, 2012. She was born September 18, 1921, in Whitehall, to Francis and Sybella (Myers) Leighton. A graduate of Augustana School of Nursing, Barbara joined the US Army, proudly serving as a 1st Lieutenant, in France, during World War II. On October 11, 1945, in Paris, France, she married Stephen Wise. He preceded her in death in 1991. Mrs. Wise was a registered nurse, working for Dr. James Barnes, in Whitehall, until retiring. She was a member of Ferry Memorial Reformed Church in Montague, and 5th Reformed Church in Grand Rapids. Barbara was preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth Leighton, in 1945, her parents, and a brother-in-law, Walter Abbott Jr.

FAMILY: Barbara’s daughters, Linda (Al) LaRue of Alto, Nancy (Gary) Oliver of Ann Arbor, Denise (Bruce) Atchison of CO and Elizabeth (Don) Rutherford of Grand Rapids; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Doris Abbott of Traverse City and Carol Ann (Judson “Bud”) Abbott of FL.

CELEBRATION OF LIFE: Friday, December 14, 2012, at 1 PM, at Ferry Memorial Reformed Church, 8669 Old Channel Trail, Montague, with the Rev. Dick Klaver officiating. Interment will be in Oakhurst Cemetery, Whitehall. A MILITARY SALUTE will be conducted at the church by the Muskegon County Veteran Council.

RECEPTION AND SHARING OF MEMORIES will be held immediately following the Celebration in the church Parish Hall.
