Mr. Keith Nye



Keith Nye, age 76, of Whitehall, died November 23, 2012, at his home. He was born April 9, 1936, in Watersmeet, Michigan, to Raymond L. and Evelyn H. (Thornton) Nye. A 1954 graduate of Whitehall High School, Keith enlisted into the US Air Force, where he proudly served during the Korean Conflict, and began establishing his network of family, friends and business associates. Earning his Master Electrician License in the State of Michigan, Keith touched many lives as a businessman in the West Michigan area. Keith married the former Virginia “Ginny” Ammond on July 1, 1977. He began his career at Whitaker Electric, continuing with Armstrong Electric. He owned and operated Vandervere Electric, as well as Chippewa Contracting Services, which developed and planned many of the Misco/Howmet plants. He later owned and operated Viking Electric and K & G Electric. A great many recognizable buildings in the West Michigan area had Keith’s expert involvement with their electrical connections and service. Active in the community, Keith was an original member of the White Lake Chamber of Commerce, owned and operated White Sands Restaurant and Bud’s Bar in Lakewood Club, and later was a partner in Crosswinds Restaurant of White Lake. He was a member of Algot Johnson American Legion Post #69 of Whitehall, the White Lake Eagles, Lincoln Golf Club and and Old Channel Trail Golf Club. Keith will be remembered by many and missed greatly. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Beverly Ryan and Jacqueline Lewis, and brothers, (John) Alden Popps and Lloyd Popps.

FAMILY: His wife, Ginny; his children, Stephanie Nye (Phil Dunn), Brian Nye, Sherri Keast, Steward McManus, Gail (Bernie) Daugherty and Scott (Pia) McManus; 9 grandsons; sisters, Billie Rae (Jim) Carpenter, Gwendolyn Norkett and Susan “Collie” (Roy) Sokolowski; brothers, Sherwood “Red”(Porn) Popps and Shannon (Bibs) Popps.

MEMORIAL GATHERING: Saturday, December 1, 2012, beginning at 11:30 AM, until 5 PM, at White Lake Eagles Aerie #3214, 1201 S. Lake St., Whitehall. A MILITARY SALUTE will be conducted, at the Eagles, at 12:00 PM, by Algot Johnson American Legion Post #69.
