In the general election, only one person filed to be on the ballot for the two school board trustee seats. Chris Mahoney, an incumbent, filed while Julie MacArthur, the other incumbent, decided not to run for re-election.

That left one space for write-in candidates, and as the deadline came for that position, three people filed. Andrew Fink, the Rev. Doug Ogden and Mark Miller all filed as write-in candidates.

According to the Muskegon County Elections Coordinator Kim Grimm, the unofficial results have shown that Doug Ogden won the seat with 276 votes. Mark Miller received 197 votes and Andrew Fink received 16 votes.

Ogden is a pastor at Lebanon Lutheran Church in Whitehall. He has also taught German and Spanish at Whitehall High School, Montague NBC Middle School and at the White Lake Community Library. He is a substitute teacher, youth luge coach and has been on the Whitehall District Schools Crisis Team and on the Health & Sexuality Review Committee for the district.

The position is a four-year term and Ogden will serve with Mahoney, Michael Sutton, Steven Markel, Ruth Grenell, Randall Fielstra and Thomas Mallory.

The Whitehall District School Board meets the fourth Monday of the month at 7 p.m. in the board room at the Community Services Building.

Another write-in candidate in the area, David Robert Fisher, who ran for White River Township treasurer, received seven votes. Incumbent Terry Hughes won the position of treasurer with 569 votes.
