Parking returned near schools

Some on-street parking will be returned to Elizabeth Street between Whitehall Middle School and Ealy Elementary School.

The Whitehall City Council rescinded a 1992 traffic order which banned parking in the partial block on the east side of Elizabeth Street from Alice Street, north of the south drive at the middle school.

The action was taken at the councils Oct. 23 meeting.

Whitehall Police Chief Roger Squiers said the action to return on-street parking in that area was requested because the schools no longer use that area of Elizabeth Street as a student dropoff from buses, and the no parking signage has faded and would need replacing. He said there is no need to go to the expense of replacing the no parking signs.
