MUSKEGON – The Depot to Depot Muskegon County Fall Color Tour has been moved up two weeks to react to the expected early fall colors in West Michigan

Originally planned for Oct. 20, the tour has been moved up to Oct. 6, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“Pure Michigan alerted us that by Oct. 20 the fall colors may have already passed their peak,” announced Amy VanLoon, executive director of the White Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, at last Tuesday’s Montague-Whitehall Rotary Club meeting.

The chamber’s office in the former Whitehall railroad depot is the northern office of the Muskegon County Convention & Visitors Bureau.

During the tour, experience Muskegon’s vibrant fall colors of the woods, dunes and water. Drive or bike this self-guided tour route to visit historic sites, enjoy nature, the glorious fall colors of this region and get your picture taken in front of spectacular Lake Michigan.

The event, sponsored by the White Lake Area Chamber of Commerce and the Muskegon County Convention & Visitors Bureau, brings attention to the beautiful surroundings of West Michigan and is an opportunity to learn about historic attractions.

Begin at either the Muskegon Train Depot, located at 610 West Western Avenue, or the White Lake Train Depot, located at 124 West Hanson. Participants will receive complete tour information, a point of interest card to collect stamps and a goodie bag, which includes a disposable camera, map, and passes or coupons to area businesses and attractions.

Tour participants can get their card stamped at each destination on the tour and drop it off at either train depot to qualify for a chance to win two round-trip tickets aboard the Lake Express Car Ferry.

The cost is $5 per adult and teenagers and children are free. The first 70 children will receive a pumpkin.

Designated historic and scenic sites points of interest included are:

• Muskegon Historic Train Depot

• Muskegon Farmer’s Market

• Muskegon Blockhouse

• Duck Lake State Park

• White Lake Lighthouse Museum

• White Lake Community Library

• White Lake Historic Depot
