The latest occurred on June 21, when Forrest J. “Forrie” Landis, Sr. was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM). According to the American Brain Tumor Association, GBM represents about 17% of all primary brain tumors.

The Landis family is celebrating Forrest’s journey during his cancer battle with a golf outing and dinner benefit on Saturday, Oct. 6.

The golf outing begins at 10 a.m. with a shotgun start at Thoroughbred Golf Club at Double JJ Resort, Rothbury. Up to 25 foursomes can be entered at $220 per team. Hole sponsorships ($50) and team and hole sponsorships ($250) are available. The fee includes lunch and dinner ticket, prizes, raffles and many extras. The benefit dinner will be held Oct. 6, 4 p.m. to 12 a.m. at the White Lake Eagles, 1204 S. Lake St., Whitehall. The cost is $15 per adult, and $7 for children 12 and under. The donations at the door include dinner, music and entry into a grand prize drawing.

All proceeds will benefit Forrest and his family with medical and travel expenses. Donations may also be made to the Forrest J. Landis Sr. Fund, c/o HarborLight Credit Union, 2151 Cogswell Drive, Whitehall, MI 49461.

Forrest was diagnosed with two tumors, one which was surgically removed in June. He is currently seeking care at the Johnson Cancer Center in Muskegon where he received radiation and chemotherapy treatment.

Forrest’s youngest brother, Roland “Rollie” Landis, was diagnosed with Astrocytoma in 1990 and passed away April 20, 1997 at the age of 32.
