Montague’s Gavin France (left) tries to clear the ball from the net while Whitehall’s Nick Rands attempts to score during Tuesday’s soccer game. Whitehall beat Montague, 7-1.
Whitehall notched two more victories this week, defeating West Michigan Conference rival Montague 7-1 Tuesday afternoon and blanking Big Rapids 5-0 in a nonconference game Thursday.
The Vikings-Wildcats matchup was tight for much of the first half. Whitehall scored first on a Ray Copley goal before Emmit Mikkelson and Luke VanBoxel traded goals within 45 seconds of one another late in the first half to make the score 2-1. However, Chris Saunders scored towards the end of the first half and two Vikings’ goals in the opening moments of the second half put things away for the Vikings, who remain unbeaten in league play.
